JUST 1 LIFE Project

Wicklow Rotary Club and Wicklow County Council have joined forces to present a road safety initiative aimed at young people.

The object of the Just1Life is to save young people’s lives. This is done by demonstrating the common causes of accidents to 16 – 17-year-old transition year / 5th students in a practical manner which they can understand.

This is a “shock and awe” approach with a hard hitting “no holes barred” presentation where students witness a series of interactive videos and presentations.

The object of the project is to raise the awareness of upcoming drivers as to hazards and consequences associated with driving, taking into account speeding, carelessness, phone texting/ conversations, peer pressure, alcohol, drugs, bravado, etc., All presenters are accompanied by photo and visual presentations, which, in many instances, are uncomfortable to watch and include some harrowing videos of testimonies from family and friends of young people who have been killed or seriously injured in accidents.

The Just 1 Life programme emphasises the stark realities and often tragic results of inappropriate driving behaviours. It provides much food for thought for these drivers of the future and seeks to influence the choices they will make as young drivers, in an age group accepted as being most at risk of having serious traffic collisions.

The inaugural launch of this initiative took place in the Mermaid Theatre, Bray, last September with a second presentation on, 21st January 2026 with some 200 attendees.

The presentations, accompanied by photo and visual media, is introduced by the Rotary Club Project Coordinator to the programme followed by a presentation from:-

  • An Garda Siochana,
  • A Consultant Doctor in Emergency Medicine,
  • Wicklow Fire Services.
  • National Ambulance Service.
  • Wicklow County Council.
